Car AccidentCOLUMBUS, OH—A 29 year old Grove City woman avoided jail after entering a No Contest plea to vehicular manslaughter in Franklin County Municipal Court today. A January 28, 2018 traffic accident resulted in the death of a 4 year old boy and injuries to another child. No drugs or alcohol were involved. Traffic on I-270 suddenly came to a stop when the woman was unable to avoid striking the rear of a van carrying the children. Both boys were unrestrained passengers and were ejected from the vehicle. The woman’s lawyer, Brad Koffel, told Judge Paul Herbert that
“In my 25 years of criminal law, I’ve never had a client who has suffered from grief and remorse like this. She is a mother of a 2 year old with another child due in just a few weeks. This accident was absolutely horrific for everyone that responded.”
Koffel’s client agreed to speak to high schools and driver intervention programs about the inherent risks of following vehicles too closely.
