Rt. 23 DUI Checkpoint in Delaware County

The State Highway Patrol and the Delaware County Sheriff's Office conducted a drunk driving checkpoint on Route 23 in Delaware County last Friday night. Law enforcement did not say specifically where on Rt. 23, but did make the information public as required by law.

The sobriety checkpoint took place from 9pm to 1am.

Sobriety checkpoints must be officially announced by law enforcement ahead of time as well as general information about the checkpoints. Specific checkpoint locations (such as exact mile market or cross street) are typically never revealed ahead of time.

DUI/OVI checkpoints are funded by grants from the federal government. Law enforcement officers must be compensated for overtime on the hours they work at the checkpoint. Counties that receive more funding typically have more of these sobriety checkpoints.
