A man who pleaded guilty to driving drunk and causing a tragic accident that injured two people and claimed the life of an unborn child was sentenced to three years in prison on Thursday, May 25.
Tony Muldrow, a 39-year-old man with no history with drugs or alcohol, first entered his guilty pleas on April 10 to operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, aggravated vehicular assault and aggravated vehicular homicide appeared in court on Thursday with his attorney, Brad Koffel of Koffel Brininger Nesbitt.

Leading up to the accident on August 13, 2016, Muldrow reportedly drove his truck left of center and caused a head-on collision with the sedan carrying the two women in the left turn lane at the intersection of Dundee Avenue and Hamilton Road before leaving the scene of the crash. The passenger was pregnant and taken to Grant Medical Center, where doctors determined that her unborn child did not survive the crash.
On Thursday, Muldrow’s friends and family filled the courtroom, and Koffel commented how he has never witnessed a “stronger, more genuine family” and said that they expressed remorse for the victim of the crash and her family.
Before the sentencing, Muldrow took the time to apologize to the victim and her family, saying that he regrets his actions that night and how it has haunted him since, taking a toll on both him and his family. However, he said that
“It’s not about me at all.”
Dozens of Muldrow’s friends and family wrote letters in support of him, and the judge said that he,
“is a really good person who made a really big, tragic mistake.”
Muldrow was sentenced to three years in prison, with a one-year and two-year sentence running consecutively. He was also fined $375, and his license is suspended for five years. Following his release from prison, he will also be subject to as many as three years of post-release control.
