Increase in Drug-Related Arrests

The first half of 2013 yielded a higher-than-average number of drug arrest compared to the years prior. In the first six months of this year arrests were 18 percent higher than in 2012. Compare the total number of drug arrests in the first half of 2013 to the total number of drug arrests three years ago and you have a 42 percent increase. This information was released by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The OSHP also released county-specific information on drug arrests, including information on the type of drug. According to this data, the OSHP made 4,728 total drug arrests between January and June of this year. 1,237 of those were felony drug arrests. Highway patrol seized over 141,000 grams of marijuana, over 30,000 grams of cocaine, over 17,000 grams of heroin and just under 1,500 grams of crack. OSHP also seized a large deal of scheduled prescription/pills such as opiates, depressants, stimulants and hallucinogens.
