Tim Potts, a former assistant prosecutor for Ashland County, was sentenced yesterday after pleading guilty to multiple felony and misdemeanor offenses.

Tim Potts was sentenced to three years of probation after pleading guilty to multiple theft and drug-related offenses. On November 17 before the Ashland County Common Pleas Court, Potts accepted a plea bargain and pleaded guilty to the following felony and misdemeanor charges –
- Grand Theft
- Forgery
- Possession of Cocaine
- Possession of Heroin
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Endangering Children
- Falsification
Potts was charged after his former law partner, an Ashland Municipal Court Judge, reported that more than $9,000 was missing from one of their former client’s trust account. Potts admitted to using cocaine and heroin, leaving the drug paraphernalia at the house while his children were present. Potts further explained that his drug use put him in a financial strain, which is why he stole the money from the trust account.
At the sentencing hearing, Potts was tearful and apologetic, saying, “I don’t know if remorse is a strong enough word to explain how I feel about what I did.”
Potts was also ordered to perform 100 hours of community service and attend a drug treatment program. He already paid full restitution for the trust money he stole. Potts will also undergo a review by the Ohio Supreme Court’s grievance committee. Worst-case scenario, Potts could have his license to practice law permanently revoked.
