On December 9, 2013, Dublin police received a call that two underage girls, aged 15 and 16, had been picked up by a
local taxi driver who made sexual advances. The girls claimed that the taxi driver offered to pay them to take their clothes off, bought them alcohol and pizza, took them to a hotel, and drugged one of the girls.
Dublin police report that the incident happened on the evening of December 9, when the taxi driver allegedly picked up the young girls and lured them to the Red Roof Inn by offering them drinks and food. Once there, the 16-year-old claims that the taxi driver drugged her. She woke up with bruises, which led her to believe she had been raped.
According to the taxi driver’s employer, picking up anyone under the age of 18 is against company policy unless they have an adult with them.
This type of allegation could warrant an importuning charge. According to the Ohio Revised Code § 2907.07, importuning is the act of soliciting an underage person to participate in sexual conduct. The severity of the offense depends on the age of the victim(s) as well as the age difference between the defendant and victim(s).
