Ohio is close to joining 21 other states that require a DNA swab of people charged with a felony offense. Some believe that these laws are unconstitutional, including Attorney Brad Koffel who appeared on this broadcast. Koffel stated that, once DNA enters a government-run lab it could become stolen or misappropriated, which is unfortunate for those who are charged with felonies, but never actually convicted of those offenses.
This law would also allow individuals to expunge their DNA tests if they are not ultimately convicted of the felony offense. This is a federal requirement for all of their DNA databases. For more information on this DNA bill, contact Attorney Brad Koffel today.
