A former owner of Rita’s Italian Ice in Powell, OH has been charged with allegedly raping and proving illegal substances to his employees, who were minors.

Danny Kitsos, 53, was charged with molesting and providing illegal substances to his employees while he was an owner of an ice cream shop. Investigators claim that five young women were named the victims, all under the age of 18, with one girl between the age of 13 and 16. The reports state they worked for Kitsos from September of 2012 until October of 2015.

The investigation began when one of the girls allegedly told her parents about the supposed misconduct. According to the indictment, Kitsos provided his employees with drugs such as gabapentin, muscle relaxers, and seizure medication, as well as alcohol. In one case, according to the report, he offered payment for sex. Investigators believe that some of the sexual misconduct took place within the Rita’s Italian Ice store, on South Liberty Street.

Kitsos was charged with 17 felony counts, including:

  • Unlawful sexual conduct with a minor
  • Rape
  • Underage persons offenses
  • Sexual battery
  • Compelling prostitution
  • Selling, purchasing, and delivering dangerous drugs

Currently, Kitsos is being held in the Delaware County Jail, where he turned himself in last Friday. His bond has been set for $120,000. He will go to trial on July 19, with a court appointed attorney, Brian Jones.
