Attorney Brad Koffel joined the team at Fox 28 News' Good Day Columbus to discuss teen drinking laws. Most parents know that it is illegal to give alcohol to individuals under the age of 21, yet it still happens frequently. Mr. Koffel explained that there are serious consequences for parents who host parties where both alcohol and people under 21 (not their children) are present. Serving alcohol to minors is actually a first degree misdemeanor in the state of Ohio with penalties such as a max $1,000 fine and up to six months in jail. There are also some instances when providing alcohol to minors is legal, such as in the event that a parent or guardian allows their child to consume alcohol, if the consumption was under the supervision of a doctor or for a religious purpose.
